Chauvet DJ GigBAR Move

Chauvet DJ GigBAR Move

The opening chords of the wedding march, a tentative piano arpeggio, always used to send a shiver down my spine. Not from romance – from the lighting. Endless hours, fumbling with individual PAR cans, wrestling cables, hoping I wouldn’t blow a fuse mid-ceremony. Then came the GigBAR Move.

My initial hesitation, honestly, was the pre-programmed shows. I’m a control freak, a lighting architect if you will, not some button-pusher. But after a few test runs – a raucous rehearsal dinner, a corporate event – the speed and efficiency won me over. The synchronized effects are genuinely impressive, a seamless wash of color that reacts to the music’s tempo, automatically.

This isn’t just a bunch of LEDs stuck on a bar. The moving heads are surprisingly powerful, with a tight beam focus capable of creating some serious mid-air patterns. Plus, the built-in sound activation is genuinely useful in a pinch. Now, I can get a basic show up and running, fast. And trust me, that’s crucial. You’re racing against the clock at many events. Time is money.

The GigBAR Move packs a lot of punch for the price point. It’s head and shoulders above the older, less versatile GigBAR 2, which, let’s be honest, felt a little… clunky in comparison. Sure, you could spend considerably more on separate movers, strobes, and washes, but that’s a whole other level of commitment (and lugging around!). The GigBAR Move offers a great balance of functionality and portability.

One slight drawback: the included footswitch, while functional, could feel a bit flimsy if you’re stomping on it all night long. But a simple upgrade to a sturdier MIDI foot controller solves that problem. That’s what I did; completely worth it.

While this light can run without any external DMX control, and for many users, the pre-programmed shows will be more than sufficient. I really appreciate that it can also integrate into a more sophisticated DMX setup if needed, allowing the more advanced light designer the kind of precision control they may need.

So, here’s the deal: If you’re a mobile DJ or a small band constantly on the move, or if you’re just starting out, this is a no-brainer. The GigBAR Move streamlines your setup without sacrificing impact. Get this – learn the basics. Your clients, and your back, will thank you.
