Chauvet DJ Intimidator Spot 110

Chauvet DJ Intimidator Spot 110

The first time I saw a lighting rig shrink-wrapped, it wasn’t a good sign. It meant a whole lot of gear, a whole lot of weight, and probably a whole lot of headaches on the other end of setup. That memory, and the countless gigs that followed, immediately flooded back when I unpacked the Chauvet DJ Intimidator Spot 110. This little thing, tucked away in its box, felt…different.

Let’s be honest, stage lighting has a reputation. Giant flight cases, complex DMX programming, the kind of cable spaghetti that would make even the most seasoned electrician weep. This, however, is designed to avoid all that drama. It’s the “mobile application” part that truly sings. The compact size of the Intimidator Spot 110 means you can easily carry a pair in one hand. Seriously, it’s that light. Think about the implications: smaller venues, quicker setup, and zero back pain. That alone is a selling point for anyone doing regular gigs.

Now, the moving head itself is pretty much what you’d expect: a single bright LED source, capable of both color and gobo changes. Where it shines (pun intended) is in its simplicity. Separate color and gobo wheels let you dial in looks quickly. The onboard automated programs are decent, but frankly, you’re missing the point if you’re not getting in there and controlling it via DMX. It’s here that the Intimidator 110 really delivers. It gives you the power to craft some seriously impressive effects, even on a beginner-level controller. A few subtle crossfades, a bit of gobo rotation… you’re suddenly the lighting wizard of the night.

The build quality is…okay. It’s not going to win any awards for robustness, but that’s the trade-off for the lightweight design. Don’t expect to be dropping it from the ceiling. One slight limitation: the included mounting bracket could be a touch more robust. But hey, it’s not a deal-breaker. A simple safety cable, and you’re golden.

Compared to, say, the older Intimidator Spot LED 350, this is a clear win for portability. The 350 is brighter, sure, but you’re paying the price in weight and bulk. The 110’s convenience is simply unmatched in this price range.

For the gigging DJ, or the solo musician who wants to add some serious visual punch without the backbreaking effort? This is your weapon of choice. This is where you grab a couple, sync them up with a decent DMX controller, and start having some real fun. Get ‘em. You won’t regret it.
